Description
A Rare English Leather Cased Pocket Thermometer c 1870-1890. The 5.5. inch by 1 inch (whenclosed) original case is leather with silk lining on inside cover. It has a ring on the top of the
case so it could be hung on the wall and if you were traveling, you would be able to tell
the inn keeper to "bring up the heat" in the room. The bone thermometer plate is marked
Standard and Made in England and is in
Fahrenheit and ranges from 20 degrees to
120 degrees. The thermometer has a bit of
silk thread so it could be hung on the wall
separately. The case closes tight and the lock works properly. Leather case is in good
condition with normal wear and tear for it's age.
The silk lining on one side is in fair condition
but silk is fragile and this is very old. Under the thermometer the lining is darker green as it
was always covered up from the light. A special hard to find Pocket Thermometer that
would have been owned by a well-to-do gentleman. It reads accurate temperature.
Great for your collection of thermometers.
