    Description

    Brass and Iron Balance Scale by Cornelius Kahlen,
    New York, late 19th century. Three foot iron stand with leveling screw supports the brass quadrant scale signed by maker at the top and calibrated in two segments 0-125. Brass specimen clip, keystone read-out, 23 1/2 inches height. Model #19294.
    This specialized scale was possibly used by the U.S. Government to test currency paper. Type was also used by newspaper and magazine publishers to verify paper samples, and this specimen was acquired from The Baltimore Sun.
    No significant repairs, replacements or restoration. Brass in old surface.
